Thai consumer confidence spikes

Consumer confidence in Thailand has bounced back amidst the political unrest there.

According to the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, the country’s consumer confidence surged from 67.8 in April to 70.7 in May, the highest in 14 months.

Thanavath Phonvichai, VP of research at Thai Chamber of Commerce, said the reviving consumers and companies’ confidence is fueled by the military junta’s measures to ‘bring back stability’ like setting up the National Council for Peace and Order.

Overall confidence in the economy also increased to 60 in May from 57.7 in April.
