7-Eleven goes green

Convenience chain 7-Eleven is rolling out ‘green concept stores’ in Thailand.

The stores will feature environmental friendly elements like rooftop solar system and laminated glass skylight which lessens heat while maximising light in the store.

The convenience chain’s local operator CP All has already started the rollout of such stores at the Panyapiwat Institute of Management on Chaeng Watthana Rd in Bangkok.

While the investment per ‘green store’ is five times higher than a regular store, it can cut the annual energy costs by 120 million baht ($3.7 million).

CP All senior VP Suwit Kingkaew said the effort is also part of the mission of Charoen Pokphand, the parent company of CP All, to reduce global warming.

“We’re willing to address energy-saving and environmental protection issues at our stores,” he said.

The operator is currently building a second ‘green store’ in a crowded community.
