Suning expands business

Chinese appliances retailer Suning is expanding into the supermarket business.

Suning is reported to be creating a subsidiary that will open 1000 supermarkets across China by 2020, the first of which to open in Nanjing later this year.

Initially, the supermarkets will be installed at its existing appliances stores, reports say.

On top of that, Suning has also set up a page at its online shopping site, offering food, beverages and consumer goods.

Suning’s businesses also include Red Baby, an online seller of maternal and baby products, which it bought in 2012 for $66 million.
