Lotte enters Japan duty free market

South Korean retailer Lotte is opening its first duty free shop in Japan.

The shop will be located at Kansai International Airport in Osaka, the opening date yet to be confirmed but likely to be sometime this year.

Reports say the Japanese government invited Lotte to develop a duty free business as part of its effort to double the number of duty free shops in Japan to around 10,000 by 2020 to attract more foreign visitors.

Lotte has duty free shops in Korea, Indonesia, Singapore and Guam. It plans to open in Sydney Airport.
