Pizza chain shutters China store in food scare

Food safety concerns have been heightened in China after another restaurant chain was caught breaching food safety standards.

American pizza chain Papa John’s has just closed its outlet in Nanjing City after being found out using expired dough.

“We apologise to our customers for the inappropriate behavior of the staff. We hope customers can give us another chance and visit our restaurants again,” said Zhang Lie, a spokesman for Papa John’s.

Local food regulators are reportedly investigating the case.

The incident comes on the heels of the closure of Husi Food Company, supplier to Yum! Brands and McDonald’s, after its staff was caught picking up meat from the floor and mixing expired meat with fresh meat.
