Thai giant enters Australia

CP Foods, the subsidiary of giant Thai company CP Group, has expanded into Australia.

The subsidiary has teamed up with a husband and wife couple to open its first Australian restaurant – 1000Wat – inside Emporium Melbourne.

It will sell modern Thai food dishes including Tom Yum Noodles, Spicy Gravy Fish, Vegetarian Green Curry and Pad Thai.

Regional GM Richard Lovell said they’re planning to expand 1000Wat to up to 500 outlets nationwide, including rolling out a franchise model in two years.

“After 28 years’ experience in Thailand and following our expansions into markets like India, Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar we want to grow our fast-food concept in Australia,’’ said Lovell.

The company says they see Australia as stepping stone to expanding into other mature markets like the US.
