Alfamart debuts in Philippines

Indonesian convenience store brand Alfamart is testing the water in the Philippines.

Alfamart, through partner SM Investments Corp, part of SM Group, has opened three ‘experimental stores’ in the country, in Trece Martires and Dasmarinas in Cavite and in Las Piñas.

The Alfamart stores span around 150 sqm on average and operate 24/7, offering fresh meat, poultry, vegetables, basic goods and food-to-go items.

The partnership marks SM’s entry into convenience chain market, dominated by 7-Eleven with more than 1100 stores.

The new chain adds to SM’s portfolio which already includes 249 stores comprising 49 SM Stores, 40 SM Supermarkets, 41 SM Hypermarkets, 97 Savemore and 22 WalterMart stores.
