Page One opens flagship

Bookstore Page One is bucking the trend of books sellers closing shops due to fierce online competition and changing reading habits.

Page One is opening a 35,000 sqft flagship store at Harbour City in Hong Kong that will include a retail and lifestyle area, bakery and restaurant.

It will also have an exhibition area dedicated to artists and organisations who wish to display their works.

Founder Mark Tan said he remains optimistic about the potential of book stores even though more and more people are turning to e-books.

“Books will not disappear. E-books are really good because they encourage people to read but to really enjoy a book, you need the right place and surroundings. It’s different from reading a newspaper on an iPad,” he told Marketing Interactive.
