Indonesian apparel sales tipped to rise fast

Indonesia’s apparel market is about to enter a high growth phase – presenting a lucrative opportunity for experienced retailers.

A new report from MarketLine, Apparel Retail in Indonesia, concludes the overall market will grow at a compound annual rate of six per cent in the five years between 2013 and 2018, taking the total market to US$7 billion in value by the end of 2018.

The Indonesian apparel retail industry had total revenues of $5.2 billion in 2013, representing a CAGR of 4.4 per cent between 2009 and 2013.

The womenswear segment was the industry’s most lucrative in 2013, with total revenues of $2.1 billion, equivalent to 40.6 per cent of the industry’s overall value.

MarketLine calculated values at retail selling price, including taxes and levies, and included all apparel from babywear to outerwear.
