Da Paolo Gastronomia: Everyday Italian indulgence
Paragon shopping centre on Singapore’s Orchard Rd has long been a drawcard for the city’s more discerning shoppers.
Now a new eatery adds a new dimension to the upmarket mall – and a stunning example of retail design.
Da Paolo Gastronomia has opened a concept store inside Paragon, which combines a takeaway meal solutions offer with a sit down cafe area.
Open D Group subsidiary Retail Access was asked to design the store, intended as a pilot for roll-out in other locations in the city in the future.
Retail Access says the key challenge of the project was to create “an iconic retail concept” that caters to premium shoppers yet remained replicable in other locations.
“A critical business aspect of the project was to ensure growth in the sales of its retail products.”

Strategically, the design team wanted Da Paolo to strengthen its positioning as a purveyor of accessible Italian gourmet cuisine, and developed the brand tagline “Everyday Italian”.
Through analysis of the surrounding retail offer in the centre, the team created a customised shopper journey that:
- Attracts ongoing traffic by highlighting impulse and colourful products such as cupcakes, meringues and pastries.
- Guides shoppers through the full array of products by clear navigation signage and well thought-through communications materials.
