Matahari makes it 128

Indonesia’s Matahari Department Store has opened its 128th location.

The new department store is at OPI Mall in Palembang, the capital of South Sumatra province.

“The presence of Matahari in OPI Mall, Palembang, is one of the company’s commitments to continue expanding our retail network across Indonesia, while also fulfilling our customers’ fashion needs,” the company said in a release.

“OPI Mall is located in a strategic area of the city, which we believe can increase our customers’ shopping convenience in Palembang and its surrounding area.”

The new store has nearly 6500sqm of retail space and Matahari expects it will draw residents from a broad surrounding catchment area.

Matahari has 128 stores in 62 cities across Indonesia. Through subsidiaries, it is ultimately controlled by European private equity firm CVC Capital Partners and Lippo Group.
