Ice cream chain to debut in Vietnam

The first international Cold Rock Ice Creameries will open in Ho Chi Minh City in time for Christmas.

According to a report in Australian business news website Smart Company parent company Franchised Food Company and its CEO Stan Gordon says a master franchise has been appointed for Vietnam and the first stores will open “within days”. Two more will follow in the New Year.

“The ice cream will be made in Vietnam by Vietnamese but with Australian technology and ingredients,” Gordon told Smart Company from Vietnam.

Gordon was inspired to enter Vietnam when holidaying there with his wife last December

“I was on a personal holiday to Vietnam and I said to my wife, ‘in this country, it will work’,” he said.

“Vietnam has a massively aspirational middle class that want to buy western brands, particularly Australian brands.”

Soon after he was coincidentally approached by a Vietnamese national interested in taking the Cold Stone brand there.

Read on SmartCompany how Gordon sees Vietnam as a springboard into Asia and plans for another of his brands, Pretzel World, to commence its overseas expansion in the Middle East.
