Metro opens no 81 in China

Cash & carry retailer Metro has opened its 81st China hypermarket – its third in Jiujiang.

“Jiujiang is not only an important Chinese inland port, but also a famous tourist city. The city offers great potential for our Cash & Carry business,” said Jeroen de Groot, president of Metro China.

“With the opening of our Jiujiang store, we are now able to serve local professional customers and independent businesses. We will not only provide quality, safe and reliable product offerings, but also competitive pricing scheme and professional services to support our local customers to gain continuous business success.”

As the largest port in Jiangxi Province with rich agricultural and mineral resources, Jiujiang is renowned for cotton production and mining. The city’s convenient transportation, rich resources, and supportive governmental policies have created a booming economy. Independent businesses are thriving in the city, generating a growing demand for modern trade services.

Metro China offers one-stop purchasing solutions, based on its broad products assortment, competitive wholesale prices, and professional services.

On the Grand Opening day of new Jiujiang store, organisations including S&N International Hotel, Xinhua Jianguo Hotel and Jiangxi Changhe Suzuki Automobile signed purchasing agreements with Metro.

Metro China purchases local specialties from Jiangxi, such as Huang-Shang-Huang duck, Anfu ham, navel oranges and honey oranges to supply to its stores nationwide. The company also sources premium Chinese mitten crab from Lake Junshan to supply its stores in the region.

Located on West Changhong Avenue, the Jiujiang store covers a sales area of over 4800sqm, and offers more than 17,300 products.

A distinct feature of Metro Jiujiang is the coldness in food related display areas, as cold chain is crucial to food freshness and high quality. The store has multi-temperature areas to meet the demand of different products, such as 0°C-4°C for fresh meat, 5°C-7°C for dairy products, etc. If customers want to walk into the cold storage areas to select products, they may borrow clean cotton-patted jackets, prepared by the store for customers’ convenience.

The store also sells a wide range of non-food products, including seasonal, kitchen, cooking & table, Apparel, office & media and business & home care.
