Solid China outlet mall growth

Hong Kong-based The Wharf Holdings says sales at its Chengdu Times Outlet mall soared 21 per cent last year.

Located near Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, Chengdu Times Outlet has been among the most visited outlet destinations since opening in late 2009. The Wharf says it ranks among the Top 10 outlet malls across China.

Outlet malls represent one of the fastest growing sectors of the commercial property industry in China, according to The Wharf.

With over 250 international brands spreading across 63,000 sqft of the mall, Chengdu Times Outlet deliver “remarkable sales performance” with its growth rate last year, the parent company said in its profit announcement.

The performance has boyed The Wharf as it works to complete construction of a second major outlet mall in China, Changsha New Outlet Mall.

The group acquired a 120,686 sqm site in Changsha in February 2015 for RMB153.6 million. Strategically located in the city, the development has direct access to multiple major motorways (including metro and high-speed expressway) connecting Changsha to a number of popular tourist attractions nationwide. It will be developed into an outlet mall with about 70,000 sqm with completion scheduled for 2016.
