Vivienne Westwood hits New York

UK designer Vivienne Westwood will open her third US store this fall – her first in the Big Apple.

A three-story flagship will open at 14 East 55th Street, with administrative offices and a showroom for the brands US operations on the three floors above.

Vivienne Westwood already has stores in Los Angeles and Honolulu, but this is her first foray onto the east coast.

The new store will feature ready-to-wear fashion from the Gold Label, Red Label, Anglomania and Man collections, as well as accessory lines, bridal designs and eveningwear from Gold Label Capsule.

Women’s Wear Daily reports a selection from the Worlds End collection, usually sold only in the London boutique co-founded by Westwood in London, will also be available.

“The building we have chosen for our shop has a great atmosphere and the area is perfect for us,” said Andreas Kronthaler, the label’s creative director.

The store is located opposite Escada, a new Polo Ralph Lauren store and its Polo Bar. Nearby neighbours include Chanel, Burberry, Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior.

“New York is an important step for us as a company, so we had to find a location which best represents our brand,” said Cristiano Minchio, US CEO.

“As soon as we opened the Los Angeles flagship, we started looking at different areas in New York and found a great building with lots of history, which was once part of the St. Regis Hotel.”
