Cosme.com breaks out of Japan

Cosme.com has launched an English language version of its website, expanding the largest cosmetics and beauty portal in Japan to a broad foreign market.

@cosme, a subsidiary of istyle Inc, has developed into a full-scale cosmetics portal reaching overwhelmingly large numbers of women – one in every two women in Japan in their 20s and 30s shop on cosme.com, making it the largest portal in Japan for cosmetics and beauty products.

Each month some 10 million consumers visit the website using all types of devices and racking up 270 million page views. It boasts a database of 250,000 items from 28,000 domestic and foreign brands and comes with a function for searching users’ postings on merchandise evaluation, and new product information.

The annual rankings of cosmetics,@cosme Best Cosmetics Award, compiled primarily from the users’ postings, draws the close attention of the cosmetics and beauty industries.

The new English-language Cosme.com, stocked with about as many items of merchandise as with the Japanese site, promises an almost identical shopping experience to the Japanese site.

Foreign shoppers can choose from a range of third party delivery services.
