NZ Mad Group bound for Japan, US

New Zealand restaurant concept Mad Group, says it has signed Memorandums of Understanding to enter Japan and the US.

Mad Group runs the Mad Mex Mexican quick service restaurant concept and Habitual Fix, which specialises in healthy wraps, salads, smoothies and juices.

A 10-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with an anonymous American partner to launch 30 Habitual Fix restaurant chains in the US starting in Los Angeles in 2016. The deal is worth over NZ$6 million in franchise royalties over the initial term and can be renewed for another 10 years after the initial term expires at a franchise royalty rate of more than $1 million per year. The company plans to have Habitual Fix locations in at least five different US states within five years.

Mad Group has also signed a separate MoU with another as yet unidentified partner in Japan, but not yet released further details about plans for that market..

The expansion of the healthy eating concepts follows a worldwide trend toward healthier eating of quality fresh foods, for which Mad Group is renowned. Just recently McDonald’s added kale to its menu to keep up with changing dietary preferences.

The company recently raised equity in a crowdfunding campaign to grow the Mad Mex business locally, rolling out both brands around New Zealand and assisting in the sales and marketing of international franchise licences for Habitual Fix.

Habitual Fix restaurants are so far located in Auckland and Wellington and will likely soon be coming to the South Island as well.
