Montblanc’s new India partner

German luxury pen brand Montblanc and Indian joint venture partner Tata Group, have received government approval for their single brand retail business in India.

India’s Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) on Monday approved the 51:49 joint venture, to be controlled by Tata subsidiary Titan Co, with the german company’s Dutch subsidiary to hold the balance.

The new partnership will supersede the current distribution agreement with retired cricketer Dilip Doshi, who launched the brand there 20 years ago and retailed it through 17 boutiques, most in luxury hotels.

Titan says it will take over the store network, but Doshi is planning legal action against Titan and Montblanc, relating to the terms in which his distributorship was annulled.
