DFS wins Myanmar contract

Hong Kong based global duty free operator DFS has secured a 10 year exclusive supply and merchandise deal for airport retail outlets in Myanmar.

The deal was negotiated with Singapore Windsor Holdings, which is expanding in a diverse range of businesses in Myanmar, including serviced offices, telecommunications and tourism services.

By the end of this year, DFS will operate almost 2000sqm of duty free retail space at Myanmar’s two main airports – Naypyitaw, the capital, and Yangon, the former capital and main commercial centre.

New outlets will be opened in the existing departure and arrival terminals of Yangon International Airport.

Singapore Windsor says these will be superseded by a larger store when the new terminal at Yangon opens later this year.

That terminal is expected to handle three times the current passenger traffic of the existing airport.

With products from over 700 brands selling in 420 locations, DFS Group is one of the largest duty free retailers in the world. More than 200 million people visited DFS stores last calendar year.
