China win for McArthurGlen Designer Outlets

McArthurGlen Designer Outlets has been awarded the ‘Best Overseas Shopping Centre of the Year’ award by China’s leading travel trade publication Travel Weekly China.

McArthurGlen was nominated by a panel of professional travel industry judges in March alongside Chic Outlet Shopping and Premium Outlets. The final decision was then voted for by the readers of Travel Weekly China and its website.

McArthurGlen says the award is testament to the work that Amie Chang and the McArthurGlen China team have been doing which has seen record tax-free sales figures across the 20 centres from Chinese shoppers in 2014. In 2015, China has now become the biggest source of international spenders at McArthurGlen Designer Outlets.

McArthurGlen Group, the European owner, developer and manager of designer outlets, was founded in Europe by Kaempfer Partners in 1993. The pioneer of designer outlet retailing in the region, McArthurGlen has since developed nearly 600,000 sqm of outlet space, with a current value of over euros 5 billion (US$5.9 billion). The company manages 20 McArthurGlen Designer Outlets across eight countries: Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands and the UK. The centres are home to the most sought-after luxury and premium brands, and offer fashion-savvy customers year-round savings of 30-70 per cent in vibrant and stylish shopping environments.

In 2013, the Kaempfer Partners sold a 50 per cent interest in McArthurGlen to the Simon Property Group, the world’s largest retail property owner.

McArthurGlen is due to open a new outlet mall at Vancouver Airport in spring 2015. Other new centres in planning are in Provence (Marseille), Ghent (between the Belgian cities of Brussels and Bruges), Remscheid (near the German city of Cologne and east of Düsseldorf), Málaga (southern Spain) and two new centres in Istanbul.
