Malaysian apparel retail sales solid

The Malaysian apparel retail industry has posted compound annual growth rate of 9.9 per cent between 2010 and 2014.

According to a new report the sector achieved total revenues of US$1.8 billion in 2014.

But the best is yet to come. The performance of the industry is forecast to accelerate, with an anticipated CAGR of 10.3 per cent for the five years from 2014 to 2019, which is expected to drive the industry to a value of $2.9 billion by the end of 2019.

Not surprisingly, the womenswear segment led the way with total 2014 revenues of $800 million, equivalent to 47.5 per cent of the industry’s overall value, according to the report.
