Apple Hong Kong has revealed the location of its fourth store in the city.
And it’s a location that has raised eyebrows…
A giant white screen bearing an Apple logo has appeared on a site on Canton Rd in the Tsim Sha Tsui neighbourhood in Kowloon.
At a reported three storeys it is set to be the largest Apple store in Hong Kong and follows stores in IFC Mall and Hysan Place on Hong Kong Island, and Tongs Festival Walk in Kowloon.
The suburb chosen comes as no surprise – Apple has been signalling an intent to open a second store in Kowloon for some time. But as blog Appleinsider.com observed, it’s the actual building location chosen that has shocked.
“Apple chose a spot that is just about as out of the way as one can be in the crowded neighborhood, a 10-minute walk from the nearest subway exit and even further from the famous Star Ferry that carries passengers over Victoria Harbor. And though the store is situated across from the the Harbour City megamall, it stands alone, an unusual configuration for Apple’s operations in Asia,” the blog wrote.
Apple is also building a store in Macau.
