Courts Indonesia plans fast expansion

Furniture and electrical goods retailer Courts sees strong growth opportunity in Indonesia, a market which currently accounts for just two per cent of its total sales.

Courts Indonesia says it plans to open seven more stores by the end of 2017 following the strong sales success of its initial three. The Singapore-listed retailer opened its first store in Indonesia just one year ago.  A fourth store will open by the end of this year.

Said Roy Santoso, Courts Retail Indonesia CEO: “Our target is to add three stores next year and another three in 2017.”

“And, just like Courts in Singapore and Malaysia, we want to become the market leader in Indonesia.”

The company is maintaining its focus on the Greater Jakarta area with all new stores scheduled for the capital.

“Once that’s done, maybe we will expand the store [network] to other areas. Currently we are exploring several potential cities, such as Surabaya, Medan and Bali,” Roy said in an interview with the Investor Daily.
