Scolding earns a scalding at Mister Hotpot

A Chinese waiter has been arrested after pouring boiling water over a customer who criticised the service standard at chain restaurant Mister Hotpot on Weibo.
The customer, Ms Lin, suffered burns to 40 per cent of her body in the incident which has gained widespread media coverage in the Mainland.
After receiving poor service at the restaurant in eastern China, the woman, who was dining with family, posted a comment on Weibo, China’s alternative to Facebook, complaining about the service while still at her table.
She had asked for her hotpot to be refilled. As she told her story to the Wenzhou Metropolis News: “The waiter told me there was still soup inside the pot and accused me of being impolite. I then asked for the manager but the waiter said ’it doesn’t matter who you call for’ and took off. Nor did the manager come.
“I then posted a comment on my Weibo account complaining about the poor service at Mister Hotpot. Not long after that, the waiter came over, asked me the reason why for sending the message and asked me to go with him to the kitchen.
“I refused to follow him and he threatened to embarrass me, then left. The next thing I knew he poured very hot water over my back,” said Lin.
The 18 year old waiter is in police custody after colleagues caught him fleeing the scene.
