Hong Kong Customs and police have raided a Mongkok shop selling counterfeit goods.
The authorities say they have “smashed a syndicate suspected of selling counterfeit goods by operating an upstairs showroom in Mong Kok” after a raid last week, details of which were released on Friday afternoon.
More than 2500 suspected counterfeit products valued at about $500,000, including leather goods, watches, apparel products, sunglasses and accessories, were seized. A 32-year-old woman was arrested and released on bail pending further investigation.
A Customs spokesperson says they will continue to take “stringent enforcement action” along with the Police to combat counterfeit activities.
Under the Trade Descriptions Ordinance, any person who sells or possesses for sale any goods with any forged trademark commits an offence. Upon conviction, offenders are liable to a maximum fine of $500,000 and imprisonment of five years.
