Metro China opens Qingpu store

Metro China is continuing to tap into what it considers to be “the enormous market potential of Shanghai”, by opening its newest wholesale store in Qingpu District.

The 4200sqm store is located at the Songze Huacheng Business Center in Zhaoxiang Town, and offers more than 16,100 items.

Qingpu is a suburban area rapidly becoming the next focus for development in Shanghai. The store marks Metro’s seventh in the city, thus its greatest concentration of its 82 outlets in China.

“Shanghai is the headquarters of Metro China and represents one of our most important markets,” said Jeroen de Groot, president of Metro China.

“We are as committed as ever to growing alongside our customers. With the opening of our new Qingpu Store, we will be able to better serve our local customers in this thriving district. As 2015 is the ‘Year of Food Safety,’ we will also continue to commit to food safety, providing our customers with safe and high-quality products.”

The Qingpu store will promote Metro’s new cash & carry store concept, with elements such as Metro Cafe, Welfare & Gifting Showroom, Express Delivery, scan pole, information counter, etc. The store offers complimentary WiFi. The new store is also equipped with a delivery platform serving both the stationary store and Metro China’s eCommerce channel, supporting the company’s development of multi-channel strategy.

To meet expectations of the customers, especially small and independent businesses, Metro Qingpu adopts a wholesale pricing scheme. On top of the already competitive shelf prices, customers will receive five per cent off if they buy three of the same item, and up to 20 per cent off on six of the same on selected items.
