iPhone 6s fillip for Hong Kong retail sales

Scalpers are again readying to snap up the new iPhone 6s for resale at a healthy profit across the border.
The latest version of Apple’s hugely popular smartphone goes on sale in Hong Kong and China on September 25 and once again is expected to be the cause of long queues outside Apple stores across the territory.
Traders told the South China Morning Post they are expecting a 15 per cent store price difference on the new handsets between Mainland China and Hong Kong. But more significantly than that, they expect high demand from Chinese wanting to get the new model as soon as it goes on the market.
The new phones carry an official price tag of HK$6388. But their resale value will range between $11,000 and $20,000.
One street trader told the newspaper he planned to charge a minimum of $12,000 for a 16GB iPhone 6S Plus, the entry level model.
Economists expect the mass sale of handsets to boost official retail sales figures, albeit their influence will skew the overall data by impacting just one sector rather than offering the sort of across the board rebound retailers are hoping for.
During Apple’s last earnings quarter, Chinese spent US$13.2 billion on iPhones and other Apple gadgets, 112 per cent more than during the same time last year.
