Eddie Borgo visits Hong Kong

New York accessories designer Eddie Borgo made a personal appearance at Lane Crawford last week to unveil a range of handbags and an Autumn jewellery collection.
And he was quick to make his views on the SAR clear: “I love Hong Kong. I think it’s extremely progressive. I like this idea that it holds this old world quality to it, but then there’s all this newness with the expats coming and going, and the young people opening shops, restaurants and art galleries.”
Now the designer has his sights set on expanding into Greater China, based on the Hong Kong success. This week he visited Shanghai.
Borgo’s bags, launched through Lane Crawford stores earlier this year, range in price from HK$9950 to $31,950 and his jewellery from $950 to $14,250. He targets women in the 40 to 50 age bracket.
Eddie Borgo has been stocked by Lane Crawford since 2008 and more recently his customer base has increased by about 30 per cent due to growing online sales. “It’s been pretty dramatic,” he said in an interview with Women’s Wear Daily during his visit.
He described Asia as “accessible”.
“The price point of the jewellery is almost unbelievable. There is a place for us within the market.”
