Samsung Pay headed for Singapore

Consumer electronics giant Samsung is expanding its mobile payment system Samsung Pay to Singapore – and also rolling it out in Australia and Brazil.

Announcing this at a press conference just before the opening of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas yesterday, the Korean company also confirmed the news in a Twitter update by its US president and COO Tim Baxter.

No official date has been announced for the launch, but the naming of the countries suggest it is imminent. Introduced first in the US in September, Samsung Pay lets buyers use their smartphones to make payments in selected retail outlets.

Competitor Apple announced in October that its competing Apple Pay service is coming to Singapore this year.

Also at its press conference, Samsung announced a new flagship TV, the Gear S2 smartwatch and the Galaxy TabPro S two-in-one tablet, as well as other consumer electronic devices.
