Newspaper launches Z-Shop for Chinese NY

Singaporeans can buy Chinese New Year goodies, fashion items and household appliances all from one website this year.

Chinese-language daily newspaper Lianhe Zaobao has collaborated with online retail platform Qoo10 to launch Z-Shop, a microsite with information and services related to the festive period.

Users can buy items ranging from bak kwa (barbecued pork) and mandarin oranges to cheongsam (traditional Chinese dresses) at the Z-shop, the newspaper’s first foray into eCommerce. Visitors to the website, which launched on Monday, can also access content related to CNY celebrations, including information on food trends, fashion styling tips and an interactive map showing festive events across Singapore. They can also send interactive electronic greetings and generate a lucky lottery number. Fortune forecasts by a Feng Shui master are also available.

“This is an opportunity for us to help merchants and business owners who are keen to explore e-commerce as an extra sales channel,” says Qoo10 MD Cho Hyun Wook.

Singapore Press Holdings’ Chinese Media Group digital editor Han Yong May says that together with content such as text graphics and videos, the microsite will be a source of ideas and information for the approaching Year of the Monkey.
