Decathlon Singapore plans second store

Within days of opening its first store in Singapore, UK sports retailer Decathlon has announced it will open a second outlet in the city in June.

In fact, Decathlon Singapore plans to open about 20 stores in the city state, providing jobs for more than 800 locals, says the retailer’s local website. It paved the way for its stores in Singapore after establishing an online retail presence there in 2013.

Decathlon says football, watersports and diving are popular with Singaporeans, and these and other sports are accessible in the new 3000 sqm store in Bedok. Customers can try out products in special in-store playing areas, and online orders can be picked up via a “click and collect”.

Employees of the new Bedok store were previously working at the company’s Singapore warehouse, helping arrange deliveries for online customers.

“They were receiving training and dispatching the products they are now offering our customers in person,” says country project leader Bastien Grandgeorge.
