McDonald’s UK to launch table service

McDonald’s UK says it will roll out table service in 400 of its restaurants.

The move, which has been trialled in restaurants in Australia, Thailand and elsewhere, is part of a bid to reposition the brand more upmarket and compete with rival fast food chains and QSR restaurants.

McDonald’s UK tested table service in 14 restaurants last year and says having gauged the trials a success it will now implement the rollout progressively through this calendar year.

It will also double the number of outlets selling its premium burger products from 30 to 60.

The fast food chain will also double the number of locations selling premium burgers, part of what’s known as the signature collection, from 30 to 60 and open digital kiosks for customers who want to build their own burger and order onscreen.

“We opened 26 new restaurants last year and the rollout of our reimaging programme is transforming the way we serve customers, and has been a key growth driver,” said Paul Pomroy, McDonald’s UK CEO.

“To date, over 300 restaurants have been refurbished and we expect a further 350 to be completed and reopened for customers by the end of the year – an average of one every day.”
