Hong Kong food trucks study leads to US

A government delegation studying regulations on Hong Kong food trucks has been investigating laws in the US, as well as the control of imported food products.
The committee is evaluating a regulatory framework for Hong Kong food trucks in anticipation of increasing demand for the trendy food service.
Members of the Legislative Council (LegCo) Panel on Food Safety and Environmental Hygiene watched food truck vendors in action in San Francisco after meeting with representatives of the Environmental Health Services Division, San Mateo County Health Services, to learn more about regulations relating to mobile food providers.
To hear about the challenges from the vendor perspective, the delegation met with Off the Grid food-truck vendor Matt Cohen.
The delegation also met with officials of the San Francisco Planning Department, San Francisco Department of Public Works and San Francisco Department of Public Health to obtain more information on the policies relating to food trucks, including the licensing requirements and enforcement mechanism.
On the second day of the visit, the Hong Kong officials visited other food-truck vendors and meet with US Food Safety Import Surveillance officials.
