Hong Kong retailers offer jobs to minorities

Hong Kong retailers and eateries are the main sources of more than 7000 jobs on offer at the Wan Chai Job Expo this week.
Organised by the Labour Department, the expo will be held at Southorn Stadium from March 16 and 17.
“With the theme of Building a Multicultural Workplace, the expo aims to provide a convenient platform to enhance the employment opportunities of job seekers, in particular the ethnic minorities, and promote their awareness of the Labour Department’s employment services,” the department said in a statement.
A total of 88 organisations will participate in the Expo. Forty participating organisations will set up counters and conduct on-the-spot recruitment each day. They mainly come from the retail, catering and property management industries, offering about 7000 vacancies for job seekers of all cultural backgrounds.
In addition, eight training organisations will provide information on training courses to job seekers. Exhibition materials introducing the employment services of the Labour Department and some job advertisements with openings that may be suitable for ethnic minority job seekers will be displayed in a mini-exhibition.  Instantaneous translation services for Hindi, Urdu and Nepalese speakers have also been arranged.
The vacancies offered by participating employers cover positions including cashiers, shop assistants, bartenders, baristas, cooks, waiting staff, storekeeper interpreter/translator, clerk, fitness instructor, security guards and cleaners.
The Expo will be held from 11am to 5.30pm at Southorn Stadium, 1/F, 111 Johnston Rd, Wan Chai.
