Tokyo MoMA stores move into Loft

Japanese chain store Loft will be opening Tokyo MoMA Design Store concessions inside its Shibuya and Ikebukuro properties next month.

MoMA stores sell classic, modern and cutting-edge design products for adults and children, including items produced exclusively by the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

Loft has received the transfer of rights of MoMA’s retail business in Japan, as well as its business assets, from former owner Shaddy.

With its licence agreement with the museum, Loft has exclusive use of its assets in Japan, such as the brand logo, store designs and product selection, as well as its product development.

To improve its brand values in Japan, Loft decided to open the two new MoMA shop-in-shops. Following this, Loft plans to expand the business in Japan from an omni-channel point of view, including the eCommerce and wholesale market, as well as product development.
