Hong Kong Customs stepped up enforcement actions against fake goods during the six-day Easter period, seizing about 126,000 suspect items worth about HK$8.6 million (US$1.1 million).

Monitoring land borders, air cargo centres, shops and the internet, Customs officers detected 10 suspected cases of infringement involving 106,000 smartphone accessories, 4000 pairs of shoes, 2800 items of apparel and 4700 pirated optical discs. Five males and four females between the ages of 15 and 46 years were arrested.

 

A Customs spokesperson says stringent enforcement actions will continue, and members of the public were asked to respect intellectual property rights and not to sell or buy counterfeit goods. People selling or possessing for sale goods with forged trademarks could face up to five years imprisonment and a fine of HK$500,000.
