Kerry Express Hong Kong teams with HKTDC

A discounted shipping fee for online shoppers will be offered as a joint promotion of the HKTDC.com Small Orders online transactional platform and Kerry Express Hong Kong.
This follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Kerry Express Hong Kong, an arm of Asian logistics service provider Kerry Logistics.
Under the agreement, suppliers on HKTDC.com Small Orders shipping from Hong Kong and Shenzhen to ASEAN countries will be offered a maximum 20 per cent discount on shipping fees when using Kerry Express’ network for delivery. Suppliers shipping from Thailand to other countries will be offered a similar discount if using services from Kerry Express’ designated partners.
The initiative will provide alternative shipping options for Hong Kong, China and Thai suppliers, and enhance their business offerings.
“This will further boost business for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), whether they are exporting their goods to the world, or importing from around the globe,” says HKTDC deputy executive director Benjamin Chau. “The Kerry Express offer helps strengthen trading ties between Hong Kong, Greater China, Thailand and the whole ASEAN region.”
Describing SMEs as the backbone of Hong Kong’s economy and engines of growth and innovation, Kerry Logistics deputy-MD Gary So, says eCommerce will be one of the company’s major growth drivers this year.
Among the first to benefit from the promotion will be 12 Thai SMEs – finalists of the Thai Access to International Markets Competition (Thai AIM). Chosen by Thai consumers for having the best Thai designs, the finalists will have complimentary Kerry Express delivery services so they can display their products at HKTDC Hong Kong Houseware Fair and HKTDC Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair this month.
In an HKTDC survey in October, more than 80 per cent of buyers commended the business model of sourcing in small quantities. This “small order” model enables more flexible sourcing so companies can respond more quickly to market situations. It also benefits suppliers who want to test the market and maintain a low inventory.
Launched in December 2014, HKTDC.com Small Orders features products available for order in quantities of between five and 1000 items. Instant payment and shipping arrangements are available for selected products, while online payment is processed and protected by PayPal.
To date, the award-winning platform has featured more than 9000 suppliers and more than 100,000 products. It is part of the HKTDC’s online marketplace, which features more than 130,000 suppliers and 1.6 million registered buyers.
