Teak & Mahogany triples profits

Online-offline furniture retailer Teak & Mahogany, based in Singapore, had a 300 per cent gain in net profit in the past year.

This came from strong growth in sales to hotels, restaurants, bars, condominiums and other commercial buyers, as well as its solid retail business.

Teak & Mahogany was founded in 1996 by a Danish couple living in Singapore, Suzan and Kristian Jensen. Kristian had been selling and trading wood for more than 20 years, and was amazed by the high-quality pieces  he came across on buying trips to Indonesia. They bought some items for their own home and soon found that friends and family loved them too. So they invested in a small backyard shed to act as both warehouse and showroom.

Today, Teak & Mahogany has 12 warehouses, an office and a showroom in Singapore. It also sells through retailers in Australia, Hawaii and across Europe, and soon will expand to Mexico and Switzerland.

Its flagship store in Singapore has expanded its traditional outdoor focus to bring its total SKU count more than 3000, including seating ensembles, barbecues, bars, dining sets, lighting and other home items.

Through Manila company PGE Solutions, Teak & Mahogany has upgraded its accounting, warehouse and inventory management, orders and multicurrency management to cloud software NetSuite.

“The real-time data shows us how the company is doing at any time,” says Teak & Mahogany co-owner and marketing and export manager Philip Jensen.
