A food shop at North Point Ferry Pier has had its licence cancelled by the director of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) for not using a legitimate source of seawater to keep fish and shellfish alive.
Ho Ping Kee fresh provisions shop was charged with violating its licensing conditions by using seawater from a prohibited area for keeping seafood alive.
An FEHD spokesman says the shop owner was fined $1500 for the breach in December. As the offence also violated the licensing conditions, the department had cancelled its licence after the conviction and relevant procedures had been completed.
Following the conviction, FEHD staff had monitored the shop to ensure legitimate seawater was used until the cancellation of the licence.
