Taiwan’s Beast Kingdom opens in Hong Kong

Taiwanese-headquartered collectibles and toys retailer Beast Kingdom has opened its second second store in Hong Kong.

The new Beast Kingdom Hong Kong store is housed within the large Eslite lifestyle bookstore in Causeway Bay and is the second of a series of Beast Kingdom shop-in-shop openings slated for the territory.

Established in Taipei in 2009, Beast Kingdom is the sole agent in Taiwan for a series of international collectible toy brands, such as Hot Toys, Sideshow Collectibles, threeA and Kids Logic. The company produces collectible toys and distributes them to over 40 countries. One of the main areas of business is the production and sales of movie-themed character goods and figurines.

The products range from stationery items, fashion and accessories to action figures of various sizes.

Regional director, Kenneth Kan, says the company already has four concept stores in Taipei and Taichung, and Hong Kong was selected as the first international location to take the Beast Kingdom brand outside Taiwan.

“The toy market in Hong Kong has been buoyant over the past few years, and there are many excellent toy trade shows located here. Apart from having a good pool of young consumers, Hong Kong also has a growing number of toy collectors in the market who are willing to spend money on much sought-after movie-themed collectible items. This is one of the reasons why we chose Hong Kong for expansion,”he said.

Associate director-general of investment promotion with InvestHK Dr Jimmy Chiang said Hong Kong holds an important role in the global toys industry as the city serves as a regional hub for licensing and international legal and dispute resolution.

“With the Mainland hinterland and great connectivity with other Asian markets, Hong Kong has a lot to offer for international players in terms of retail opportunities and access to efficient manufacturing, logistics and distribution channels.”
