Tasty Singapore launches on China’s Tmall

The Tasty Singapore shop on Alibaba’s Tmall has been officially launched, with Singapore Senior Minister of State (SMS) Sim Ann of the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, and Ministry of Finance, doing the honours in Hangzhou.

Sim was in the Zhejiang province on a two-day visit organised by International Enterprise Singapore as her introductory trip as co-chairman of the Singapore-Zhejiang Economic and Trade Council (SZETC).

Tasty Singapore is the first country-led transaction page on Tmall, and has received more than 45 sign-ups from Singapore brands since its soft launch in July last year. IE Singapore and the Singapore Food Manufacturers’ Association (SFMA) built the eCommerce platform to help Singapore food companies access China’s consumer market.

Following Tmall, IE Singapore and SFMA will roll out the Singapore shop on other Chinese eCommerce marketplaces, such as JD.com, Suning.com and Yihaodian. Non-food sectors like maternity/baby products and cosmetics will be included.

With transactions generating US$540 billion in China last year, the eCommerce market there is forecast to become larger than Britain, Japan, France, Germany and the US combined by 2020.

During her visit, Sim visited the Hangzhou Yunqi Cloud Town (an initiative to develop a cloud ecosystem in Hangzhou) and internet technology company Netease.
