eCommerce services group joins Datapipe

China’s eCommerce services provider Baozun has shifted its IT systems to enterprise hosting management company Datapipe.
As well as its migration to the cloud, Datapipe will manage and maintain Baozun’s systems.
Already, this has resulted in a 500 per cent reduction in the time it takes Baozun to onboard new clients and a 20 per cent cut in hosting costs. Maintenance has been slashed from 200 man-hours to virtually zero, and Baozun’s IT team of more than 20 employees has been freed to focus on core business activities.
Datapipe has also eliminated server downtime for Baozun, enabling it to guarantee 99.95 per cent uptime for its clients, which include more than 100 global brands in more than 50 countries.
Working across the Asia Pacific, Baozun offers end-to-end brand eCommerce services, with clients in the apparel, appliances, electronics, home and furnishing, food and health, cosmetics, insurance and automobile categories. Baozun helps the companies run eCommerce sites on such online marketplaces as Alibaba’s Tmall and JD.com.
“Baozun has hundreds of global business partners, spanning millions of customers and transactions,” says Datapipe Asia vice-president Colin Chan. “Some days have a thousand times the transaction and visitor numbers than others, so the challenge of ensuring infrastructure is able to scale up to meet business demand‎ is very real.”
Before joining Datapipe, Baozun’s data ran on externally hosted web servers, and as its business grew, so too did the server load, putting pressure on its IT team. Chief technology officer Tony Wu says Datapipe delivers a high level of customer support, is affordable and able to provide open source as well as private cloud services to meet Baozun’s needs.
China last year surpassed the US to become the world’s largest retail eCommerce market, and is expected to cross $1.21 trillion in retail eCommerce sales next year, according to eMarketer.
Baozun, which also has the Maikefeng app for branded products, was founded in 2007 and has its headquarters in Shanghai. It expanded into Hong Kong in 2013 and Taiwan the following year. The company has more than 2500 employees, and its investors include Alibaba Investment.
