Hari Raya shoppers seeking exclusivity

A growing number of Singaporean Hari Raya shoppers – especially Millennials – are eschewing traditional destinations for outfits in preference for exclusive boutiques.

An article published by The New Paper reports the “time-tested Ramadan tradition for many Singaporeans would be flocking to the bustling Geylang bazaar, Tanjong Katong Complex or Joo Chiat Complex to sift through racks of brightly-coloured, heavily-beaded or fancily-embroidered clothes in search of that perfect Hari Raya outfit”.

But a new trend is seeing many consumers opting instead for eCommerce sites or smaller brick-and-mortar stores.

“This group of shoppers, mostly millennials, often value exclusivity while not burning a big hole in their pockets.”

The feature backgrounds multi-label boutique En Pointe, launched last February, at North Bridge Rd, and discusses how eCommerce fashion sites like Zalora and FashionValet are reporting increases in customers shopping for modest wear on their sites in recent years.

“People are becoming more discerning this year,” said En Pointe co-founder Dahlia Mohd, pictured above with social media influencers on her store’s Facebook page. “They want something new that’s a bang for their buck so that’s where mid-range designer brands like Anaabu hit that sweet spot.”
