India’s Choko La to expand across Asia

Indian chocolate specialist Choko La will make its international travel retail debut at Singapore’s Changi Airport next month.

Its products will feature in LS Travel Retail stores in Terminals 2 and 3, while a T4 boutique store run directly for Changi Airport Group, to open in 2018, is being discussed.

Airports are not new for the brand, which has seven boutique stores in India in partnership with duty-free retailers – Flemingo Duty Free (Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Calicut International Airports),Dufry (Bangalore International Airport) and DFS (Mumbai International Airport).

“We are now focussed on travel retail and are looking to expand in Asia, Europe and Australasia in a big way,” says Choko La COO Vibhu Mahajan. “We have defined our road map for the next five years and shall be rapidly investing and expanding.”

He says negotiations are in hand for pop-up stores in airports including Bali, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Macau, Seoul, Sydney, the Philippines and Tokyo.

Choko La products include Indian-inspired chocolates. Its “Sweet Memories of India” gift pack includes Dark Mocha, Fennel Fusion, Tropical Coconut and Chilli Surprise flavours. Mahajan says the packs can be customised to suit country or regional preferences.

As well as chocolate-based spreads, the company offers the Homebaker’s Range of cooking chocolate.
