Memebox Korea raises $65m for expansion

eCommerce beauty products company Memebox Korea has finalised a US$65.95 million series-C funding expansion.

Investors include Formation Group, Goodwater Capital and Pejman Mar Ventures, says TechCrunch. All in all, Memebox has raised $95 million in capital from investors.

This latest cash injection will help Memebox to continue expanding into the China and US markets. The company sells about 1200 primarily Korean beauty products to customers in the US, China and Korea. It has a staff of about 250 people in offices in Hong Kong, San Francisco, Singapore, Seoul and Taipei.

Memebox says there have been four million downloads of its mobile shopping app, with 80 per cent of its sales coming from mobile. The company has just opened its first brick-and-mortar store in Seoul, and says it plans to add more.

“Offline helps us reach a new set of customers, and it provides more data points for us,” says Memebox US president Arnold Hur. “Offline is part of delivering a complete experience.”

Memebox’s sales in China ballooned 1200 per cent last year, while US sales grew by 490 per cent.
