Korean Ilahui arrives in Vietnam

Korean discount store chain Ilahui has landed in Vietnam with two stores, one in Hanoi, the other in Ho Chi Minh City.

The retailer specialises in Korean fashion style with more than 20,000 imported products including stationery, household items, cosmetics and accessories. Ilahui is targeting customers 15 to 35 years old, providing them with quality products, priced from VND10,000 (US$0.45).

The chain adds 100 new products every month, mostly covering the hottest-trending items from Korea.

Ilahui’s Vietnam spokesperson said the chain plans to open six to eight stores by the end of this year, and 200 stores over the next five years.

The Vietnam retail market has seen various foreign retailers debuting during the last five years. Last month, another Korean discounter Naughty Cat settled down in Ho Chi Minh City’s centre, attracting a large number of young local customers.

According to Nielsen research last year, the Vietnam retail market is booming with 60 per cent of the population aged under 35 and an average income of US$2000 per year.

Ilahui has been expanding fast in Asia, opening more than one store a day. The brand has launched in Vietnam under an exclusive franchise agreement with V.I.C Retail company.

The two current locations are at Cong Quynh, District 1 in HCMC and Chua Boc, Dong Da, in Hanoi.
