Square Enix trying the restaurant game

Videogame developer Square Enix is not playing around when it comes to food – it is launching two restaurants in Tokyo next month.

Its new ventures come as it plans two major software releases, World of Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy XV.

Both stores will be in Tokyo’s biggest electronics and anime shopping district, Akihabara. Square Enix Cafe, which opens on October 1, will rotate its theme to spotlight different Square Enix games, changing menu items and interior touches. The Final Fantasy XIV restaurant is dedicated to that game alone.

As well as game-inspired dishes, Square Enix Cafe will have a standing menu that includes burgers, beef and pancakes.

There will also be an attached shop selling related merchandise such as smartphone cases, towels, plastic document files and even decorative tape.
