Singapore Gudetama cafe on its way

A culinary hit in Hong Kong, the lazy and grumpy Sanrio character Gudetama, fashioned after a runny egg, will soon have its own cafe in Singapore.

Sanrio is the Japanese character gift company that introduced Hello Kitty to the world.

While the Gudetama-themed cafe will be opened by the end of next month, it already has an Instagram account set up by Singapore food bloggers.

In Hong Kong, the eggy character has featured in dim sum and curry dishes, and even in a McDonald’s meal set.
Of course, the first Gudetama cafe is in Japan, in the Hep Five shopping mall in Osaka. The cutest dish at the Japanese outlet is the Japanese curry rice, where a rice Gudetama wrapped in a bacon “blanket” lays on a bed of white curry.

Singapore food blogger Shirley Wong, also known as Little Miss Bento, has been enlisted by the Singapore Gudetama Cafe to co-create the menu and help with the food styling. Wong has previously shared her own Gudetama sushi and bento creations on her blog.

At Suntec City Mall, the Gudetama Cafe follows other character-themed cafes such as the Pokemon and Hello Kitty cafes.
