Malaysia launching Bookoff spin-off Jalan Jalan Japan

Jalan Jalan Japan logoOne of Japan’s largest secondhand chains, Bookoff, is heading into Malaysia with the opening next month of Jalan Jalan Japan at One City in Subang Jaya, Selangor.

“Jalan jalan” is Malay for “going for a stroll”, with the 23,000 sqft (2137 sqm) shop aiming to encourage its visitors to explore its line-up of categories including apparel, bags, shoes, household goods, baby goods, toys, hobbies, sporting goods, musical instruments, ornaments, furniture and books, with all containing “preloved” goods from in Japan.

Opening on November 18, the store is being run by the Tokyo-based Bookoff Corporation through its subsidiary Bok Marketing, which is a JV between Bookoff, Koike Corporation of Tokyo and Koike Malaysia.  

Founded in 1946, Koike Corporation is involved in international logistics. Its subsidiary Koike Malaysia was founded in 1992 and is also involved in international logistics a well as vehicle assembly, manufacturing, car-part development, a Japanese restaurant and food trading.

More than 100 million people buy and sell in Bookoff stores throughout Japan each year, and as well as planning to set up more outlets throughout Malaysia, the group aims to expand to other countries further down the track.
