Anchor HKIA airport retail licences up for tender

Airport Authority Hong Kong has launched tenders for two anchor retail licences – a liquor and tobacco concession, and a perfume, cosmetics and fashion accessories concession – at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA).
Following passenger research on HKIA airport retail facilities, the authority has recognised changing shopping behaviour among travellers, and says it plans to use the tender opportunity to modify the retail spaces and concession mix.
“As a world-class international and regional aviation hub for around 70 million passengers a year, it is critical that HKIA continues to offer a variety of attractive shopping choices for our diverse range of travellers,” says the authority’s executive director, commercial, Cissy Chan.
New product categories and activities will be introduced under the two concessions, and the increased floor area will enhance flexibility and experimentation.
In the restricted area of Terminals 1 and 2, the shop areas cover 3400 sqm (tobacco and liquor) and 3300 sqm (perfume, cosmetics, fashion accessories).
Open to all travel retailers, the tenders close on February 2, with the selected partners being announced in the second quarter of next year.
